Latitude Z

So I was doing my daily trolling on the NBR boards and I came across an interesting thread. Apparently Dell’s releasing something called the Latitude Z, which appears to be akin to an Adamo for the corporate user. At this point, I’m not totally skeptical about this machine’s existence anymore, but information is still hard to find.

I read this elsewhere on the Interwebs…

That’s why I thought I’d give this a try… as there is very little information about this DELL Z series laptop on the Internet, my blog post should attract some considerable audience in the next few days. So, this article is more like a search engine experiment that anything else.

… and I thought it was a great idea, so here you are. A completely uninformative post about this Dell Latitude Z. Try searching for the Z on Google in a day or two and seeing what happens!

At any rate, I’m fairly neutral towards the release of another Dell-branded “luxury notebook”. The Adamo is nice, but what I’m really looking for is a cheap XT2, not some massive, MacBook Pro-like slab of a laptop. Besides, if I was (god forbid) in the market for a similar device, I’d rather have a Thunkpad X301 or an HP Envy 133.

Oh yeah, I’m also going to claim that I’ve seen the first Z-Series machine, and the above is it!

[Fallacies of Irresponsibility] Started my search!

December 21st, 2008 Maa-shachou Posted in FoI, Undefined 1 Comment »

So I’ve started my search for housing, almost exclusively via craigslist. My first attempt yielded a 50% success rate - I emailed 4 people, 2 of them got back to me, and with the help of my friend Raymond, I was able to check out both of them. I liked one, and I submitted an application on Friday (I saw both places Wednesday). Optimistically, the earliest I’m going to hear from them is Monday.

On Leg 2 of this search, which will start Tuesday, I plan to see about 4. This mighty accomplishment will not happen if Raymond wasn’t willing to help out. I feel like I’ve been bugging him too much, so this will be the last time he’ll be on this mission with me. In perparation, I’ve emailed ~10. Actually wait, let me go get the actual number. Okay it’s 9. Close enough though, right? Now keeping the success rate as before, that should yield me 5 results (4.5 rounded up), and so far there’s 2. One at 10am and one at 2:30pm. Now let’s hope there are 2 replies from the rest.

Actually I just want the house that I turned in the app for. That would make life much easier, and I can start moving in by Jan 1. Here’s hoping for something good to happen. Knock on wood.

[Fallacies of Irresponsibility] The American Dream

December 14th, 2008 Maa-shachou Posted in FoI 1 Comment »

I had this dream about having this nice little room, with my Core i7 and insane amounts of RAM, connected with 18Mbps internet and a wifi network with the SSID of “Cosmonaut”. You know, the typical dream of a typical me (people who know me personally will get what I’m hinting at). The new semester at a new university starts in about a month, and I need to move out of my current home. I was waiting for my financial aid to come in so that I could pay for the deposit, but I found out a week ago or so that I won’t get it until sometime next year. I tried applying again but it said “Duplicate Student ID” entered. After calling in, I realized that I will have to submit a paper application.

Not so bad, I said to myself. I went about taking care of my academics, which should be over by Monday. After a study session today, I sat down and started looking for studios. The first one I came across looked fine to me, until I read the pdf application that required me to have my 3 most recent paystubs. Now I haven’t been living in the US for that long, and no one told me that pay stubs were this important. Yes, I didn’t really care for them and I threw them away. Now I realized the gravity of my mistake. I kept looking, and came across another one, except that they wanted me to be earning 3x the rent. Now I work on-campus atm and it barely pays 0.75x of the rent, so that won’t work out either. It is then I realized that what a pickle I was in.

But this is where my “character type” kicks in. I’ll say that so far, I’ve been very happy-go-lucky. Maybe I used up all of it, and will have to chance upon (doesn’t that require luck in and of itself?) something that will refill my “luck bar.” I figure that right now, there’s no point in swearing and brooding over my situation. I have 30 days to make something happen. I may or may not be able to make something happen within the span of 30 days, but I dug my own grave. Hence, I’ll start going to San Jose as often as I can possibly go to start looking for housing.

Here, under “Fallacies of Irresponsibility,” I shall enumerate my experiences in trying to find a place that will take me in as a tenant. If no one does take me in, I’ll have to commute 2 hours to and back from school. My chances of getting a place to live is low(er than before), but it’s not 0%. With this philosophy in mind, I shall tackle the issue at hand. Look forward to the accounts!
